Disciplines at Counterplot

Holistic approach

At Counterplot we see untapped opportunity in focusing our attention and efforts on the interplay of multiple (seemingly marginal) case factors, as opposed to handling projects and tasks as isolated “occurrences”.

Below are some of components of the apparatus we leverage in our work.

Ontology

Think of it as fancy name for ‘worldview’ – that is to say, it’s the most general semantic framework which integrates the totality of meaningful elements and relationships in one's environment.

Axiology

The study of ‘value’ as a fundamental dimension of existence. Theory and application of — what is and should be ‘worthwhile’, as well as how the gauge of ‘the valuable’ shifts depending on the context.

Teleology

Think — ‘goals’, 'vision', ‘outcomes’, ‘ends’, etc. Teleology deals with how we shape our purposes and how our purposes shape us.

Rhetoric

Persuasion through content: from the choice of specific verbs in a social media post, to the use of a particular color scheme in an app interface — it all has to do with rhetoric.

Systems thinking

A way of making sense and exploiting complexity by approaching it in terms of 'wholes', rather than reducing it to the sum of its components. (consider it as a less abstract manifestation of holism)

Situational insight

Getting a useful grasp of the state of affairs through intentional avoidance of ‘underthinking’ and ‘overthinking’.

Gamification

Attaining enhanced engagement in a designated target domain through the adoption of subjective and objective elements inherent to games.

Strategy

Deliberate pursuit and adequate employment of advantage as a precursor to the efficient fulfilment of clearly set out objectives.

Creativity

A method of accomplishment that prioritizes original (unconventional) solutions as a means of maximizing results in a cost-effective way.

Innovation

The economical generation of novel offerings which provide the potential client with value that is preferable to the existent alternatives.

IA / UX

The organization and designation of information (copy, content, interface, etc.) in a way that best synchronizes user attitudes and objectives with the actual implementation of the offering.
